Glossies - they are in Ireland!
I have been in contact with Paul Kelly who is a regular birder at Tacumshin in County Wexford. I put my theory to him, and his initial response is that he agrees that the Marloes birds have moved to Wexford. Their 4 birds appeared to be 3 adults and a younger/less well developed bird, the latter breaking away from the other 3 as they flew around the lake several times before they settled and spent the day there yesterday. This morning just one bird was present, whilst a flock of 3 was found in County Cork....amazing! I have attached a picture from Paul of 2 of the birds yesterday, the lower of which is possibly our '4th bird'. Fascinating stuff. If only Wexford could reciprocate by sending just a fraction of their autumn rares our way...Derek has calculated that the distance to Wexford in a straight line is a little over 60 miles so with a tail wind perhaps the birds could have got there in an hour or so.
